My grandfather died at 3 this morning.

I guess it should be strange that I really felt nothing about it. I guess even stranger that my father isn't distraught at all about it either when telling me about it.

Then again, I had already grieved for him years ago after what he had done then. Nothing to do but the funeral on Thursday.

Apparently, sleep is not part of the plans tonight...
Apparently, Mario Party 8 came out today.

How do I know? Because T.J. has friends over and they've been playing it since around 11 PM. I know that time since that's when I was first woken up by the party.

It's now 2:30 AM. I have to be at work at 8:00 AM.

I guess I should have been the ass and go out there to tell them to keep it down?

No, I don't think I'll be getting any sleep tonight.

    New Site Up.
Well, looks like I'm making another blog-style site. This Deadjournal is probably where I'll put my more personal entries. Of course, my anime weblog is where I will put my views on anime and manga (and most likely books and movies too). And finally, this website is where I'll post about everything else, from my music, pictures, politics, or technology.

I do have a Livejournal, but that is really just a place holder for my Livejournal contacts I've picked up.

Website theme change and recent developments.
I've updated the look of my anime weblog a few weeks ago and also changed the URL to get to it. Check it out and leave some feedback: http://anime.nickistre.net

Otherwise, I've been looking for a house to rent for the past few weeks. It sucks that housing prices in Lafayette have skyrocketed... and salaries haven't gone up to match.

And yeah, last Friday was the last official day at the old New Iberia job. Come Monday, I'll be working full time as a PHP programmer.

    [Manager Name]
    [Company Name]
    [Company Address]

    Dear [Manager Name],

As required, I hereby give you two weeks notice of my intention to resign from my position as System Analyst.

An opportunity to take my career to the next level had presented itself. After much deliberation, I have decided to meet that challenge.

I am grateful to have been a small part of the success that is [Company Name], and wish the company the best of luck in future endeavors. I thank you for what the company and the people who work for it have taught me for the past five years.

    Yours sincerely,

    Nicholas Istre

Played around with a few more features on my site
One of the more interesting is the OpenID login feature. Basically, you can use your deadjournal account to log into my site to post comments under.

    Here's what you do,

    1) Login to deadjournal with your account.
    2) Go to http://www.nickistre.net
    3) In the OpenID Login box, enter in "username.deadjournal.com" (Without the quotes).
    4) The page will jump back to deadjournal, asking if you wish to pass your ID to the site. Press Yes (Either option, depending on what you want to do).
    5) My site will then ask for an email address. This is necessary as the Drupal system requires one for every account it creates. (It will only do this for the first time).
    6) Browse the site and start posting comments! If you want to leave a test post, use my Installed a trackback module for drupal entry.

Keep in mind, you have to be on a computer that's logged in deadjournal for this to work. Oh, this also works with a livejournal account!

    Blog Website fun.
Looks like I've getting into a groove with my blog (http://www.nickistre.net/). Of course, nobody visits it, but that's really not the point of it in the first place. I do need to personalize the page a bit more, though.

I'm also working on another website project, but details will not be publicized until I get closer to opening time. I still have to build it how I want it, first.

    *%&@ lost my entry again!?!
After a few frustrations, I've decided to switch content management systems on my site. Joomla looks pretty out of the box, is very easy to install and setup, but has some problems with time-out issues (Basically, if you take too long typing out an entry, the system will log you out and tell you this when you try to submit. Hence, it loses your entry... Grr! Supposedly, this is fixed in the next version when it frustrated one of the developers enough.).

So, I've installed Drupal, moved all of my blog entries to it, and updated all of my domain entries. So far, it didn't give me the session time-out issue that Joomla featured. The administration features isn't as pretty as Joomla's and it isn't a separate "back-end" like with Joomla, but that's not a big deal.

I'll probably try out a few other CMS over time too just to check them out.

The site is the same place, http://www.nickistre.net. The blog section can be accessed directly at http://blog.nickistre.net.

At some point, I'll look into making an icon and customizing a theme for the site.

    New Blog
Well, spent a small amount of time and created a blog section to my site. It's directly accessable at http://blog.nickistre.net, or you can go to my main site at http://www.nickistre.net and pick "Blogs" on the left menu. I'll be keeping my "bitch" rants here, probably, along with other important things going on in life. I'll be running an personal anime and book blog there, though.

BTW, the site was mainly designed for Firefox in mind, and I.E. doesn't handle transparent PNG image files right (You know, another standard Microsoft ignored...). It should work in other standards compliant browsers rather well, too.

    "Hi! We're a modern communications company! ...
... And we can't communicate with our Customers! Nor can we even communicate with ourselves!!!"

    BLAH!

Looks like the service has to be *disconnected* before a new account can be put on the address. What a major pain...

This time I talked to Brigette, who handles the disconnects...

    Fun with modern communications companies!
"Hi! We're Cox Communications. We deal with modern telecommunications systems! We are so advanced, we still use fax machines to authorize actions on business accounts! Whee!"

Whee... on hold with Cox, just trying to get them cancelled so Linnea can start using her own name and account for it and not pay for a much more expensive business connection... What a pain... I know I faxed in the disconnect form, and an "Erica" confirmed over the phone to me that she received it, but they seemed to have told Linnea that they don't have it so she can't order new service up for that day... Bah...

Maybe it's in a "to-do" pile somewhere to put into the system. Can't they have noted that they've received it but it's not in the system yet? Gah.

In other news, the Twelve Kingdoms Translation Project site is back up after being down for several months. I had asked the original host about taking over hosting responsibility for him, but instead, he got it up, updated the forum software, and made me moderator of the forums. Whee.

Here's the link to the site: http://12ktp.inspirelight.net/

The forums are probably some of the best resources for information about the anime The Twelve Kingdoms on the net.

Still on hold and annoyed at Cox, though...
